Back in August I blogged about being part of a new tattoo series on BBC Radio 4. I am excited to share the final details and link to the first episode that aired last week. I am featured for a short second in part one, so fingers crossed more to come from me in the new section this coming Friday! It was amazing to hear Inkluded mentioned on a prestigious channel like the BBC – this has really made me reflect on how far we’ve come in the last year!
In the first part of the series, presenter Laurence Llewelyn Bowen looks at the many and various factors that are driving us to get tattooed now. He chats to tattooist Lal Hardy and Dr. Matt Lodder, a lecturer in contemporary art at the University of Essex. I love hearing Matt talk about tattoos – if you haven’t been to one of his talks or encountered his work before, it’s worth a listen for any tattoo fan.
Episode one aired last Friday and you can re-listen online now.
In the second episode in a two-part series, Laurence will chat about tattoo subject matter. He’ll uncover arm sleeve tributes to family members, vivid Japanese back pieces and dotwork renderings of Hollywood actors. Whether an assortment of unconnected images, or carefully considered full body masterpieces, Laurence asks what the tattoos on people’s bodies say about their lives. And at the end of the programme, he will decide whether or not to join the ranks and get a tattoo himself.
Part two will air on BBC Radio 4 on Friday 14th October at 11am.
