Sky Art‘s new art competition ‘Portrait Artist of the Year (PAOTY)‘ is now in its 5th year and tattoo artists can enter to be part of it.
This week I’ve been speaking directly to the production team who are keen to reach the tattoo artist community which they believe is a massive source of creativity and artistry. Obviously, I agree!
In 2015, Inkluded’s tattoo art exhibition aimed to raise the profile of tattooists as ‘artists’ and challenge public misconceptions of the tattoo community. The tattooers involved found the experience stimulating as it gave them an opportunity to take a step back from tattooing and re-embrace creations on non-skin canvases.
This televised competition could give tattoo artists the chance to experiment with their portraiture and share it with a new audience. The prize is a £10,000 commission to create a piece of work for a major British institution. Competitors will be filmed at London’s Wallace Collection and another prestigious art location which is TBC.
Any mediums are accepted except digital art and the deadline is Friday 3rd March. Find out more via Sky Arts.
