These two-tone tattoos by Russian artist Evgeny Mel are sublime.
There’s something about the bringing together of just two colours (in this case, black and turquoise) that allows a tattooed image to be captured in a truly unique way.
And it’s not just about small pieces for this tattooist, either. As well as intricate, detailed and ‘mini’ artworks, his two-colour speciality is often translated onto huge areas of the body, like the full sleeve tattoo below.
You can represent just about any concept or image with a style as cool as this, but personally I love Evgeny Mel’s nature pieces. In leaves and landscapes, the splashes of light and dark blue can capture shadows, depths and the contrasting tones of our often surreal natural world.
