This last week has been evidence of the strength of the UK tattoo community and its ability to come together and raise money for worthy causes that need our help. No donation is too small and no cause is too small either…
This year, tattoo artist Keely Rutherford sadly lost her mother to depression and is now running a charity day in August to raise money for Mind.
On 12th August 2017, Jolie Rouge Tattoo Studio in London will be holding a flash day that focuses on the imagery of cats, an animal that was close to Keely’s mum’s heart.
The day isn’t just about raising money but also awareness. Keely said on her Instagram earlier this month:
“I’d like to speak openly about this in hope to raise awareness and hopefully help someone in talking about their problems.”
“No matter how bad the situation, no matter how scared you are, no matter how alone you feel please, please, please, ask for help. We all bottle things up and let them eat us up, but to share how you feel is so so important.”
“Every day I feel guilty and that I should have done more to help my mum. If only she had spoke to dad or I about her fears and worries then maybe today I would be telling a different story.”
How can you get involved?
Get yourself down on 12th August 2017 to Jolie Rouge Tattoo (364 Caledonian Rd, London N1 1DU) for a walk-in cat tattoo. From 10am, cat designs from all artists at the studio will be available on a first come, first served, basis. You’ll also be able to buy artwork or cakes, or just to support and absorb the atmosphere.
Keely is looking for tattooists and anyone involved in the industry to donate contributions to the day – art, prints, cakes, pins or other items – must be cat related! Email her at email@example.com if you can help out.
Can’t make it or contribute? Donate to the cause online now.
