STRIKE: The Helmet Project is a new art exhibition curated by tattoo artist Alex Binnie and editor  (Things n Ink tattoo magazine founder) Alice Snape.

It will bring together talented individuals from different creative industries who will all utilise the same canvas and turn an everyday bike helmet into a piece of art. The final works will be on display from 1 September at Look Mum No Hands, in Old Street, London.

The project aims to raise awareness about cycle safety and the importance of wearing a helmet. The artists received no set brief so they could be as creative as possible, and their results will be on display for one week only.

The idea was born from a near-fatal cycling accident experienced by Binnie’s wife Zoe. Zoe sustained a serious brain injury and although she is now fully recovered, it was a long and frightening experience.

Had Zoe been wearing a helmet at the time of her collision, she may have sustained no injury to her brain at all. This is the message at the heart of the exhibition. Money raised will support Headway, a UK-wide charity that supports people affected by brain injury.
