As well as running this blog I write for Skin Deep Tattoo Magazine. Coming up next month, I have written a monster article all about… little monsters.
I have one cat tattoo and am due for another. But why do we choose to convey our love for felines with ink on our skin?
You’ve got a few weeks to wait to read the full story in the magazine, but in the meantime, here’s a taster. I chat cats with tattoo artist and fellow cat-lover, Georgina Liliane…
Do you have a cat?
I have two gorgeous and very big boys, brothers Hans & Gus, my little German evil villain cats!
Why do you think someone would get a cat tattoo?
You can either get a cute, fluffy, dewy-eyed cat tattoo, or make them sinister, or even gentlemanly. That’s the beauty and creativity of it, you can have your tattoo to match your cat’s personality!
Tell us about the cat tattoos you have done!
Some have been incredibly important to my clients. Quite often they are memorials for childhood pets, or recent pets sadly lost too soon. Whether it’s a cat, dog or hamster, animals and pets bring my clients so much joy and they become part of the family. I’m fortunate that a lot of my clients are open to me to creating something individual involving their cat, or just a cat in general that’s not their own. I do a lot of witchy black cats which makes me happy as I hope it brings attention to just how beautiful black cats are in light of their superstitious label.
Do you have a cat tattoo yourself?
I have five cat tattoos and none are of my own cats! I have a carousel style tattoo but instead of a horse it’s a cat done by my lovely friend Ashley Luka in Solihull. I also have a tiny cat portrait amongst an ornate heart and a Margay kitten done by the wonderful Antony Flemming in Ruislip Manor, London. I also have a floral heart shaped wreath with two love-cats by the stupidly talented Charlotte Timmons from Birmingham.
Cats are not everyone’s cup of tea as they’re independent, and can sometimes be little shits! But once you earn a cat’s affection they’re nothing but an enrichment. They have their own special personalities, plus who doesn’t like a lovely mouse or bird gift to come home to?!
