I have to firstly apologise that I’ve been a little quiet recently as things have been manic over here in non-tattoo world. The good news is that in the background I am cooking-up some fun projects to tell you about later on this year.
One of those projects, I’m pretty giddy to announce is… THE INKLUDED SESSIONS, a new series of filmed discussions, hosted on YouTube in which I’m chatting to our tattoo community about various topics that encourage thought, reflection and conversation.
We’re known to have a little philosophical waffle here on Inkluded (guilty as charged). Whether it’s about tattoo motivations, aftercare, TV shows or whatever, our writers and followers always have something to say about it and this website has become a place for them to gather their thoughts.
After witnessing us, the tattoo industry, voice our disagreements time and time again at the continued release of mainstream representations of tattooing that we think are irresponsible and inaccurate, me and Kat Winifred (who is a regular blogger here on Inkluded) had a little chat about how we could challenge these perceptions of tattooing in current media.
This catch-up ended with us both throwing our pens to the floor – right, that’s it! Let’s just make OUR OWN ‘TV show’ then!
We’ve had our thinking caps on, we’ve invested in some jazzy new cameras, we’ve got our game-face ready, and I’m excited to tell you that our first episode of The Inkluded Sessions was filmed last month.
On a sunny Friday, myself and tattooist Kat travelled down to Briar Rose Tattoo, a new studio ran by an exceptionally talented artist called Tiggy.
The Inkluded Sessions aims to bring tattoo artists and enthusiasts together to discuss particular subjects in a really informal way. It’s not scripted, it’s not planned.
I think if we want to be represented in a natural and realistic way, let’s just strip back any production and keep it simple. To contradict my earlier statement, this is not a TV show in the traditional sense – it’s me with a camera. We may also experiment with just a podcast format in the future.
In the sessions, myself and the participants pick a topic and have an un-edited ramble to you all on camera. In our first episode we’re chatting about tattoo studio environments – have they changed over time and is the shop atmosphere important for tattooers and clients? What are some of our experiences and how has achieving the ideal environment been an important mission for Tiggy in opening Briar Rose?
Well, you’ll have to tune in to find out.
The first video will be released on Inkluded’s YouTube channel in August. Make sure you click SUBSCRIBE on YouTube and you’ll be notified when it goes live.
In the future The Inkluded Sessions will either continue as a video series or, as mentioned, we may give our discussions a whirl in a podcast format, depending on what you all think of the first episode. Be sure to let us know your thoughts when we launch.
I’m looking for people from the tattoo community to get in touch! Are you a tattooist or tattoo collector with an opinion about a particular topic? Would you like to have a good old chin-wag about it on camera or in a podcast? Email firstname.lastname@example.org with your idea!
